First, Chalcedon is defined as believing Christ was “in two natures, one single and same-Son,” meaning that He was both holy and human. He is one in the same as it is said, “He is neither separated nor divided in two persons, but He is a single and same only-begotten Son, God the Word, Lord Jesus Christ”. Basically, this is a mission statement for this specific faith which believes Christ came from God and was born through the Virgin Mary for our salvation.
I found these Canons of Chalcedon interesting because they seem to focus on the higher ranks (bishops, clergy, etc) For instance, Canon 3 protects citizens from the greedy and prevents, “bishops, cleric, or monk,” from managing “rental properties or become the administrators of temporal affairs,” (Canon 3). Canon 5 talks about bishops and clerics who often travel between cities. Canon 7 discusses how those who become clergies cannot be involved with secular behaviors. Also, Canon 16 says how monks are not permitted to marry. It is also worth noting that sometimes these Canons are irrelevant to the religion. For example, Canon 9 talks about how to settle a dispute between two clerics and Canon 18 is about “plotting and conspiring,” against other bishops, fellow clergymen, and monks.
